One of the first impressions the visitor sees while entering the special exhibition „KRABAT. Man. Myth. Brand.” are parts of a movie scenery, provided for the exhibition by the Krabatmühle Schwarzkollm e.V.
These are sceneries from the film „Krabat” from 2008, directed by Marko Kreuzpaintner, that was a remarkable succes after its release.
Saturday, February 3-2018 this most recent cinematic adaptation of the literary Krabat material will be shown in the Sorbian museum at 6 o‘clock p.m.
The film was produced partly in Rumania and partly in southern Germany.
If there is one thing you can not say about this film it is, that it leaves the viewer unmoved.
Even today, almost ten years after the release, quite everyone, who has seen the film has a bunch of impressions and opinions about this film.

The font of the Krabat-exhibition
Sometimes bypath of an exhibition are quite interesting. Some of our visitors might have noticed the elegant and pleasant typeface, which is used in the exhibition and for the exhibition catalogue. Some people tend to oversee that kind of aspect.
But, can you believe that the font derives from the time of Johann von Schadowitz!
The author and carver of the types was the Hungarian Miklós Kis, who was born in 1650 in Misztótfalu, nowadays in Romania. At this time Johann von Schadowitz was 26 years old.
Originaly a teacher, Kis went to Amsterdam to study theology and only came in touch with printing through the task to oversee the printing of an hungarian Bible.
The font he invented is part of the Antiqua-fonts with rounded sigantures, which are oriented on antique examples, in difference to the „Blackletters“ like the Schwabacher and the Fraktur.
This Antiqua-font is suitable for the use of diacritics, that you find often in hungarian and slavonian texts. Kis worked in Klausenburg, hungarian Kolozsvár, today Cluj-Napoca in Romania) after his return from the Netherlands until he dies in 1702. Until recent times this font, and customized derivates of it was known under the name Janson. (For further information see: http://www.typografie.info/3/artikel.htm/wissen/janson-antiqua-kis).
This means, when you visit our the special exhibition or have a fine read in the exhibitions catalogue, not only the content but also the font will bring you back to the time of the historical Krabat.
We thank the design-agency logoform for recommending this font.
Family afternoon in cosy atomsphere
On Saturday, november the 18th the magician Gerat Robel entertained children and adults in our audience hall for the family afternoon. The motto was „Abrakadabra”.
By performing tricks galore he always managed to amaze his youngster audience. However, surely a lot of the present adults asked themselves too „How did he do that?”
After the magic show the film „Sedmy rapak” (the seventh Raven) was shown in the upper sorbian version. The film deals about the life and the adventures of the young Krabat (the fictive character not Johann von Schadowitz.)

Donation from Texas
This month a special donation from overseas arrived at the Sorbian Museum in Bautzen.
It is a model from the “Wendish Bell”, which now stands on the campus of the Concordia University in Austin, Texas.
The original bell was brought in 1854 from pioneers and was produced by the foundry Gruhl in Kleinwelka. The bell hung in the tower of the The First Wendish Church (later St. Pauls Lutheran Church) in Serbin and was later brought to the Concordia College of Texas (nowadays Concordia University, Texas).
Soon it will enlarge the steady exhibtion as a reminiscence of the history of sorbian-wendish protestant emigrants of the 19nth century.
Many thanks to the generous donator – Dr. David Zersen, President Emeritus, Concordia University Texas!
