Photographic workshop during the winter holidays. Experience photography with a profesional!
For the next holiday season we have a special offer for photoenthusiasts! You can join our photographic workshop, held by the art photographer Jürgen Matschie from Bautzen. It is open to all ages! For the first section february the 15nth – to take photos is on the list, later you might evaluate them together with the other participants. For the second section, February the 22nd discussing earlier works by yourself and photographic advice are planned. You have the opportunity to profit from a lot of experience.
It is necessary that you bring your own camera, food und 5 € participants fee for each section.

You can participate at one appointement single (without joining the other), but please be aware, that the second appointement is based at the first one.

Scientific Trainee
Since January 2017 Monika Ošikowa works as a scientific trainee in the Serbski muzej – Sorbian Museum. In the next two years Mrs. Oschika is going to acquire work-experience as well as specific knowledge about the museums business. Being a studied landscape-architect she has already gathered experience on a nine month internship fot the Museum of western Lusatia in Kamenz.
In the Sorbian Museum she supports the field of museologica pedagogy, creation of educational programmes and guided tours through the museum.
launch party for two illustrated books with historic photographs of Lusatia
An invitation to the book-launch about two illustrated volumes about historic photography in [wendish] Lusatia from its beginnings until the 1930s is given by the Domowina-publishing in cooperation with the Serbski muzej for wednesday, february the 22nd 2017 a 7.00 p.m. at the Serbski muzej – Sorbisches Museum.
Editor Jürgen Matschie and the authors Andrea Paulik, Maria Mirtschin as Martina Noack are going to present the two volumes, each dedicated to the sorbian Upper Lusatian area or the sorbian/wendish Lowe Lusatian area. Everyone interested is cordialy invited.
At 6 p.m. a guided tour through the special exhibition “Wotmolowane. – Mit Licht gemalt” will be held by the curator Mr. Jürgen Matschie.

The museum is colsed the 24th, 25th and 31st of decembre 2016.
Decembre the 26th as January the 1st 2017 the museum is opened from 1.00 o‘clock p.m. – 6.00 o‘ clock p.m.
An unusual family protrait,
For this years advent time we have a special offer for our visitors from far and near. Therefor we cordially invite you on decembre the 4th from 3.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. to our family afternoon about the topic of early photography.
Especially in the time before Christmas you might wish for a delightful souvenir of your family life. A family portrait in a scenery of an ancient photographic studio could be exactly that.
On the occasion of our contemporary special exhibition about the early years of photography in the wendish/sorbian context, we would like to take you back tot he time, when getting a photograph donce was a special experience. Get your „historic“ picture on your apparat or taken by us!
While you await you souvenir getting developed (printed out basically), we provide a quiz for children and an handicraft-offer to decorate the frame for your picture. Pastries and hot (non-alcoholic) beverages will be provided as well.

For the first time the Sorbian museum dedicates an exhibition to photographic history and the question, when did sorbian/wendish motives appear as an image worth showing. It will be shown from Sunday, October the 9th till Wednesday, March the 3rd. For that numerous original photographic pictures in archives and museums throughout Lusatia have been sighted.
Do you possess interesting historical photographies (with sorbian/wendish content) of the time from 1850 till 1930? If so, we would be most grateful if you could lend them to us for the duration of the exhibition! Two walls are exclusively reserved for this purpose. That way, you could participate in the exhibition. History consists of live and transient moments; which is expressed by no medium as clear as photography.
In case you consider to follow this appeal: We kindly ask that first you send your chosen pictures to us in a digital form. We will contact you back in any case. Please do not send us any material unsolicited via postal service.

Next Coffee at three o‘clock at november 30th
Due to several requests of our “regulars” we decided to switch the appointement for the next coffee at three o‘clock from decembre the 7nth to november the 30nth, one week before. This time the theme is “Greetings from the wendish region” – Sorbian Motives on postcards a historical photographies.
Lecturer this time will be our scientific coworker Mrs. Paulik. You are welcome, to bring own historical postcards and photographs with wendish/sorbian motives.

Student of archeology on internship at the Museum
For the period of four weeks of this summer Josefine Falkenberg is on an internship at the Sorbian Museum. During that time she is focussing on extended research about clothing of the western slaves in early middle ages as well as forms of early Slavic castles and settlements from 11th / 12th century. In that context she is drawing sketches of the objects in question. Another part of her work closely connected to the other is the creation of a more child-oriented part of our current exhibition.
Primarily, Ms. Falkenberg is studying ethnology and archaeology of the ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine world (two subjects, Bachelor of Arts) at Gottingen’s Georg-August-University.
