Description of the project

Mamy coś dla uszu! Wasz wideoprzewodnik dla dzieci!

Prick up your ears! Come and explore the museum… The children’s video guide for you!

A Polish Version of the video guide for children guides through the permanent exhibition of the Sorbian museum. There are 34 stations, where you can listen to and watch short cartoons. Five different Sorbian mythical characters explain to the children interesting facts or stories about the Sorbian history, Sorbian customs and the life of the Sorbian people in Lusatia in an easy way. These are the small goblin Lutk, the giant Sprejnik, the daughter of Aquarius, Will-o’-the-Wisp and the king of snakes. Therefore, the children watch short, animated film sequences. For this project, the museum did work together with pupils and teachers of the school “Tęcza” Zgorzelec. The Polish pupils and teachers did speak the dialogues of the mythical characters in their mother tongue.

Intercultural events relating to this project:

On May 28th and 29th of 2019, a school exchange between Polish and Sorbian students took place in Bautzen and the surrounding area. On their first day, students of the “Tęcza”-school Zgorzelec visited the “KRABAT-Mühle Schwarzkollm / Krabatowy młyn Čorny Čołme”. On the second day, they went together with pupils of the “Sorbische Oberschule Michał Hórnik” from Räckelwitz to see the Sorbian museum in Bautzen. In this way they got a small impression about the Sorbian culture and language.

On December 7th of 2019, the Sorbian museum organised an afternoon for families. The new Polish video guide was therefore presented at the museum. In addition to that, both partner schools, “Tęcza” and “Michał Hórnik”, had prepared a short performance. The Polish students presented some parts of their program “Bunt w resorcie świątecznych przesyłek”. The Sorbian students sang some songs from their Sorbian musical “Quo vadis”. The group “Rozmaryn” performed Polish Christmas songs last. Finally, the visitors could taste typical polish food.

Aim of the project

Intermediation of the Sorbian culture as common cultural heritage in the Euroregion

The aim of the project is to form contacts and partnerships in a sustainable and continuous way that the knowledge about the Sorbian history and culture can be easier supported as common cultural heritage in the Euroregion. This projects helps us to maintain, to encourage and to extend neighbourly friendship, which already started to grow long time ago in history. Both cultures is connecting a common history and furthermore the geography. We live close to each other and therefore we want to act together across the borders.

The Sorbian museum is another room for education outside of schools. It offers the opportunity to be a place for encounters between children, youths and young families. The provisioning of the video guide as a modern medium offers a contemporary access to knowledge in general for our Polish visitors in their mother tongue. The Polish people are furthermore our strongest foreign visitor’s group at the museum. In cooperation with our project partner, we have planned to develop further partnerships with schools in the future together. Friendship and exchanges as well as tolerance and the appreciation for different cultures will be strengthened.
