Wendish easter eggs are one of the most known features of Lusatia. No matter if coloured or monochrome, decorated by wax, or by the batic-technique or by scratching into a colour-layer, they keep being fascinating up till today and not only in the time of easter.
Behind the filigree patterns lays a rich symbolic and hidden messages. But, what do we really know about the wendish easter egg and how did it develope? While some value it as an decoration object or souvenir for others it stays what it always has been a love-gift, that gets eaten. The exhibition “Sonnenrad und Wolfszähne” [Sunburst and Wolfteeth] tells the history of the lusatian easter-egg-customs, explains techniques and symbols, and presents masters of the popular art of egg-decorating.
