Easter with the Sorbs. Kóstku dać
17 March – 05 May 2024
The Sorbs in Lusatia have a huge variety of easter traditions. Old and new ways of celebrating Easter are presented in our new special exhibition “Easter with the Sorbs”.
This years exhibition focuses on a very important piece of equipment for sorbian Easter riders, the harnesses for their horses. There exists a variety of different designs, but the most valued are harnesses decorated with cowrie shells. We invited sorbian artist Karoline Schneider, who is presenting the results of her research regarding those shells as well as her art around her findings under the title “Kóstku dać”.
Visitors can also admire the winning eggs from the competition around the most beautiful sorbian easter egg of 2024. And last but not least we have special fun activities for families and children, as they can experience the sorbian easter traditions with all senses.

What does Sorbian fashion look like?
This special exhibition presents the newest fashion created by experienced designers, the winners of the contest SORBIAN STREET STYLE and last, but not least, our youngest ones, the students of the Sorbian high schools. All trendy clothes, whole fashion collections and many other objects like for example accessories were inspired by elements of traditional Sorbian costumes and Lusatian folk art.
SORBIAN STREET STYLE stands up for tradition and innovation of a young, dynamic, confident, Lusatian-Sorbian identity.
The contest as well as the exhibition have been a cooperation project between the Sorbian museum, Volksbank Dresden-Bautzen eG and KREATIVES SACHSEN, the Saxon centre for cultural industries.
In addition to the special exhibition, an exhibition catalogue will be published in style of a fashion journal.
During exhibition period, a variety of events will take place such as workshops, talks, exhibition tours, movie night, holiday programmes and a family afternoon. Life is about fashion – fashion is about life?!?
WOBRAZY KRAJINY. PODOBE POKRAJINE. BILDER EINER LANDSCHAFT. WOBRAZE KRAJINY.
PŘECHOD. PREHOD. ÜBERGANG. PŚECHOD 03
No matter what language, no matter what provenance; art can truly bring people together. Finally we have got the same questions about life and nature because we are all human beings. It is exactly what our new special exhibition Transfer part 3. Pictures of a landscape does. Twelve artists in whole, one of them an artist group, coming from three different countries, speaking four languages. They have asked themselves what the landscape does for us or what we do with it. Doesn’t transfer even more mean? Find out: 26 May – 25 August, presented in the Sorbian Museum.
